3G Mobile Network to be switched off at the end of the year: Important Information

From the end of 2025, New Zealand's 3G mobile networks will be switched off. This is happening so everyone can benefit from faster, more reliable 4G and 5G. Unfortunately, this may possibly affect medical alarms and other technology disabled people rely on, if they connect using the older 3G technology.

The shutdown of 3G networks in New Zealand will impact individuals with disabilities who rely on 3G technology for essential services, such as medical and security alarms. These alarms, particularly those not monitored by professional emergency response services, may cease to function, potentially posing risks to the service' users. Mobile network operators are aware of this issue and are taking steps to address it, including providing free handsets and SIMs to vulnerable groups.
